How to Fund Your Self-Directed Investment Account

You can fund your self-directed investment account using either of the following methods:

  • Interac e-Transfer

  • Bill Payment through your online banking platform

Interac e-Transfer

Interac e-Transfer is the fastest funding method and can be initiated directly from the app.

How to Deposit via Interac e-Transfer

  1. Open the app

  2. Tap the menu icon beside Search

  3. Select Transfer Funds

  4. Under From, select Interac

  5. Under To, select the account you want to fund:

    • Personal

    • TFSA

    • RRSP

  6. Enter the deposit amount

  7. You may be redirected to your banking app to complete the Interac request

  8. Review the details and tap Confirm

Interac e-Transfer deposits are typically processed within 1–30 minutes.

Bill Payment

You can also fund your account through your financial institution’s online or mobile banking platform using Bill Payment.

Important Information

  • The name on your bank account must match the name on your investment account

  • If you are using a joint bank account, sign in using your own banking credentials so your name appears correctly

  • Each investment account has a unique account number and requires a separate payee setup

If the funding account is not in your name, the deposit will be rejected. Returned funds may take up to 25 business days to be processed by your financial institution.

How to Deposit via Bill Payment

  1. Sign in to your online or mobile banking platform

  2. Navigate to the Bill Payment section

  3. Add a new payee by searching for:

    • CI Investment Services

  4. Do not select payees associated with loan or prepaid card products

  5. Enter the account number for the investment account you want to fund:

    • In the app, go to Account > Investment Accounts

    • Select the applicable account to view the account number

    • Copy the account number and enter it into your banking platform

  6. Save the payee

  7. Submit the payment as you would for a standard bill payment

Bill Payment deposits are typically processed within 2–4 business days, excluding weekends and holidays.
