What tax documents will you receive?

Updated over a month ago

For most Canadians, the personal tax filing deadline is April 30. You’ll receive any investment-related tax documents from the Intelligent Investing app well before this date.

The tax documents you receive depend on the type of investment account you hold. Through Managed Investing, we offer:

Tax-Free Savings Accounts (TFSAs)
Registered Retirement Savings Plans (RRSPs)
Non-registered accounts

Not sure which account you have?

You can check directly in the app. Tap on a goal and look just below the goal name to see the account type. If you have multiple goals, you have multiple investment accounts—be sure to review each one.

Which documents are issued?

TFSA

  • No tax documents (investment growth and withdrawals are tax-free)

RRSP

  • RRSP contribution receipts

  • RRSP withdrawal slips (for registered withdrawals, such as T4RSP)

Non-registered accounts

  • T3 / RL-16 slip if trust income allocated to you for the year is $100 or more

  • Trust income summary if total trust income allocated is less than $100 (a formal T3 / RL-16 slip is generally not issued per CRA guidelines; the income is still reportable on your tax return)

When will you receive them?

Tax documents are delivered on a rolling basis as they become available. Below is the expected timeline:

RRSP contribution receipts

Last 10 months of contributions: available now / late January

First 60 days of contributions: delivered by late March

RRSP withdrawals

Registered withdrawal slips (e.g., T4RSP): late January

Non-registered account documents

T3 / RL-16 trust slips: late March
All documents will appear in the Documents section of the app as soon as they’re ready.

Why documents arrive at different times

We receive required tax information from our service providers throughout the tax season, not all at once. This means some documents, especially for non-registered accounts, can only be issued later in the process. This timeline is consistent each year and is largely outside our control.

Even with later-issued documents, you’ll still have time to file before the April 30 deadline.
