Why do we need your SIN to open a TFSA or RRSP?

Updated yesterday

Canadian financial institutions are required by federal law to collect your Social Insurance Number (SIN) before opening a registered account, such as a TFSA or RRSP. This ensures your investment income and contributions are reported correctly for tax purposes.

How your SIN is used and protected

Protecting your information is a top priority. We do not sell your personal data.

Your SIN may be shared only with trusted service providers when it’s necessary to:

  • verify your identity

  • open and administer your registered account

  • transfer funds to and from your accounts

All partners are required to handle your information in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable regulations.
