You can track the performance of your investments using the monthly statements we provide. These statements show both your Book Value (also known as cost basis or total contributions) and your Market Value (the current value of your investments).
If the Market Value is higher than the Book Value, your investment has increased in value.
If the Market Value is lower, your investment has declined.
Comparing these two values helps you understand whether your portfolio has gained or lost value over time.
You can view your statements at any time under Account > Documents > Statements in the app.
Understanding key values
Book Value: The total amount you’ve contributed to your investments.
Market Value: The current value of your investments based on market prices.
Investment Account Balance: Reflects the current Market Value and updates daily to account for market fluctuations.
How to read your monthly investment statement
Each monthly statement is divided into sections that provide:
Portfolio-level performance summaries
Individual account details
Fees charged
Custodial account information (where applicable)
For Tax-Free Savings Accounts (TFSAs), the Goal Balance reflects the current Market Value, including daily gains or losses. Monthly TFSA statements also include performance percentages over multiple time periods and a comparison between Market Value and Book Value.
Your monthly statements include:
Performance updates for all investment accounts
Transaction summaries (deposits, withdrawals, buys, and sells)
A complete overview of your portfolio
Statements are issued by the 15th of the following month and are available under Account > Documents > Statements.
Annual performance and tax documents
Each year, you’ll receive:
An Annual Performance Report showing your rate of return over multiple time periods (such as month-to-date, year-to-date, and since inception), benchmark comparisons, and cumulative growth.
Annual Tax Information Documents for registered accounts such as TFSAs and RRSPs, including contribution and withdrawal details.
These documents can be found under Account > Documents > Annual Statements.
An investment is generally considered profitable if its Market Value plus distributions is greater than its Book Value.
Short-term goals and lower-risk portfolios
If you’re working toward short-term financial goals, your funds may be allocated to a Money Market ETF portfolio. These portfolios are designed to prioritize lower volatility and reduced risk by investing in exchange-traded funds suited for short-term investing. Returns may fluctuate based on market conditions and are not guaranteed.
